Pallet Flow Racking

Pallet flow rack systems are a high density pallet storage solution that uses depth to increase capacity. This system uses a slightly inclined rail with rollers that allow pallets to move easily along the sloped plane. These systems are also called gravity flow or dynamic flow systems. The pallet flow system often has complex motion and braking systems to control the speed of the moving pallet. Pallet flow racking systems are either a FIFO (first in, first out) or a LIFO (last in, first out) storage system. If the system is loaded from the back and unloaded from the front, its FIFO; if the system is loaded and unloaded from the front its a LIFO system.

Pallet Flow rack systems provide an infinite variety of layouts depending on the individual flow rates and order picking requirements. Ideal for freezer warehouses, food distribution or for storage of high-volume customer goods, pallet flow is also good for holding warehouses and dispatch areas where pallets need to be removed quickly. Every phase of the operation is carefully considered to provide the most efficient, customized system possible.

Advantages of Pallet Flow Racking

  • Ideal for storing perishable goods.
  • Produces an almost solid volume of usable storage space.
  • Provides savings in space, manpower and utilities.
  • Maximize Storage Capacity: Close to double the storage in the same footprint
  • Increase Throughput: Less travel with consolidated picking and replenishment
  • Decrease Equipment Costs: Few forklifts needed
  • Reduce Labor Expense: Less fork lift travel and pallet handling
  • Better Inventory Control: Ideal for dated and/or perishable goods

How Pallet Flow Racking Works

Pallet flow racking utilizes gravity to move pallets from the loading end to the unloading end. Pallets are loaded onto inclined roller tracks or wheels, and gravity propels them forward, ensuring a smooth and efficient flow. This system operates on a first-in, first-out (FIFO) basis, meaning the first pallet loaded is the first pallet retrieved, which is ideal for managing perishable goods or products with a short shelf life. By maximizing storage space and improving efficiency, pallet flow racking is a valuable solution for businesses looking to streamline their inventory management processes.

Customize Flow Racking to Match Your Inventory Needs

It is essential to design your pallet flow racking system to match your inventory specifications, including pallet size, style, and load weight. Based on your specifications, our gravity flow experts will select either wheeled or roller pallet flow to tailor your system. Common applications for pallet flow include pallet storage, case picking, pallet intake, dock staging, empty pallet returns, manufacturing assembly, and parts supply.

Full Width Rollers Pallet Flow Racks

Full roller pallet flow racking

Full width rollers uses wide rollers that span the entire width of the pallet, providing full support. Ideal for handling pallets with uneven bottoms, plastic pallets or steel containers. This system ensures a smooth rolling surface, minimizes pallet hang-ups, and can handle heavy loads up to 5,000lbs.

Three Rail Pallet Flow System

Three Rail wheel pallet flow racking

3-Rail system utilizes three rails with wheels or rollers positioned under the pallet runners – two on the sides and one in the center. This application is mostly suitable for standard wooden pallets and evenly distributed loads. It offers better weight distribution across the lane, reducing stress on pallets and rails, and preventing pallet skewing or dislodging.

Ready to Increase your Warehouse Storage Space?

Harness the Power of Gravity with Custom Pallet Flow Rack Solutions

Pallet flow rack maximizes your warehouse space by condensing pallet storage into deep, single-SKU lanes that harness the power of gravity to flow palletized inventory from one side of the system to the opposite side. Pallet flow rack delivers greater pallet accessibility than other high-density systems and more flexibility in its cost-effective design – Do you need 3 to 4 pallets deep, or 9 to 10 pallets deep, or 20+ pallets deep? Pallet flow rack is completely scalable to your inventory and processing needs.

Maximize space and efficiency while minimizing labor costs with custom-configured pallet flow –from high-density multi-level systems to individual pick and staging lanes, we’ll design your ideal custom solution.
