Company Overview

LCEC (Lee County Electric Cooperative), established in 1940, is a not-for-profit electric distribution cooperative that serves more than 230,000 customers across five counties in Southwest Florida, including Lee, Collier, Charlotte, Hendry, and Broward. As one of the largest cooperatives in the nation, LCEC is owned by its members and operates with a mission to provide reliable, affordable, and sustainable electric services. The company is committed to maintaining high operational standards while emphasizing environmental stewardship through energy conservation programs, renewable energy initiatives, and community outreach efforts.

In addition to its core electric services, LCEC offers various resources and programs for customers, such as energy-efficiency tools, rebates for solar installations, and assistance with bill payments. LCEC also takes a proactive approach to system maintenance, investing in storm-hardening efforts and upgrading infrastructure to withstand Florida’s extreme weather conditions. As a cooperative, LCEC prides itself on its member-focused service, returning margins to customers in the form of equity and maintaining transparent communication to ensure community trust and involvement.

The Challenge

LCEC, experiencing an increase in demand for reliable electric services across Southwest Florida, needed to increase its warehouse storage space to support the efficient distribution of critical equipment for electrical infrastructure. With space constraints in their existing facility and the need for secure, durable storage systems, LCEC turned to Atlantic Rack for a tailored solution.

The project demanded Atlantic Rack to provide Hot-Dip Galvanized Selective Pallet Racks, ideal for the harsh outdoor environments and the heavy-duty nature of LCEC’s inventory, such as transformers, electrical poles, and various utility supplies. The challenge was not only to maximize vertical space but also to ensure that the pallet racking system could withstand the high humidity and frequent storms that Florida experiences. Atlantic Rack’s galvanized racks provided the durability, corrosion resistance, and flexibility that LCEC needed to streamline its operations and support its growing service demands. This collaboration improved workflow efficiency and future-proofed LCEC’s ability to serve its expanding customer base.

The Delicate Balance of Utility Infrastructure Logistics

Managing the vast inventory of electrical equipment poses unique challenges for LCEC, particularly when it comes to storage and distribution. Unlike conventional goods, utility components such as transformers, electrical poles, and power line materials require careful handling due to their size, weight, and varying environmental conditions. These materials must be protected from corrosion and weathering to ensure reliability and longevity, especially in the humid and storm-prone climate of Southwest Florida.

This challenge is further amplified by the need for quick and efficient access to essential items during emergency situations, like power outages or storm recovery efforts. Space optimization is crucial for LCEC to maintain readiness while avoiding costly warehouse expansions. Atlantic Rack’s installation of Hot Dip Galvanized Selective Racks, provided a solution that balances space-saving efficiency with the durability required for such heavy-duty materials. By streamlining storage and improving workflow, this system enables LCEC to maintain operational efficiency and respond swiftly to customer needs, ensuring continuous service reliability despite the logistical complexities of utility infrastructure.

The Solution: Hot-Dip Galvanized Selective Racks

To tackle LCEC’s need for a robust, efficient storage system, Atlantic Rack implemented Hot Dip Galvanized Selective Racks, which were tailored to withstand the harsh outdoor conditions in Southwest Florida. The hot-dip galvanization process added a protective layer to the racks, ensuring they remained resistant to corrosion and damage from exposure to moisture, extreme temperatures, and frequent storms. This durable design made it perfect for storing LCEC’s heavy electrical components, such as transformers, cable reels, and other essential utility equipment.

The selective racks provided LCEC with flexibility in storage, allowing for efficient organization and quick, easy access to different products. The open layout of the selective racking system enabled the storage of varied-sized equipment while maximizing vertical space. With improved accessibility and optimized space usage, LCEC was able to store more equipment without requiring additional building expansion.
